| A-Law is the standard codec (compression/decompression)
algorithm for pulse code modulation (PCM) from the ITU-T (the Telecommunication
Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunications Union). A-Law
is the type of PCM used in most of the world. The other type, mu-Law, is
used in the United States and Japan.
